Storage Bed Frames

The Benefits of Storage Beds vs Traditional Beds

Here's what makes storage beds worth considering. You get all the functionality of a regular bed frame plus hidden storage compartments that'd otherwise sit empty. That dead space under a traditional bed? Storage beds turn it into usable bedroom storage.

A bed with storage underneath eliminates the need for extra furniture. You might not need that bulky chest of drawers or ottoman when your bed frame does the job. Less furniture means more floor space and easier room movement.

Types of Storage Mechanisms: Gas Lift vs Drawers

Gas lift storage beds use hydraulic lifts to raise the entire mattress platform. You get access to a large storage area underneath perfect for bulky items like spare bedding, seasonal clothes, or luggage. The Torquay Storage Bedframe and Edge Gas Lift models work this way.

Drawer storage beds feature built-in drawers that slide out from the side. Our Premium Platform 4 Drawer bases and Timber 4 Drawer options give you organised compartments for smaller items. Drawers that slide smoothly make accessing your stuff easier than lifting a mattress.

Which one's right for you? Gas lift beds offer more total storage volume. Drawer beds give you better organisation and easier access to specific items without disturbing your mattress.

Choosing the Right Storage Bed for Your Needs

Think about what you're storing first. Bulky items suit gas lift mechanisms. Clothes, accessories, and smaller items work better in drawers. Mixed needs? Consider a combination or multiple storage solutions in different bedrooms.

Size matters for storage capacity. Queen bed frames with storage offer a sweet spot between bedroom footprint and storage volume. King bed frames and super king bed frames maximise storage but need larger rooms. Double bed frames, single bed frames, and king single bed frames work for smaller spaces.

Our storage beds come in various styles. Upholstered options like the Mosman Gas Lift give you soft, fabric-covered designs. The Maddon Gas Lift in dark grey adds contemporary elegance. Timber drawer bases bring natural warmth to your bedroom.

Common Questions About Storage Beds

Are storage beds easy to assemble?

Most of our storage beds arrive in flat-pack form with clear instructions. Gas lift mechanisms come pre-assembled, you're mainly connecting frame pieces. Drawer units take a bit longer but aren't complicated. Two people make assembly much easier, especially for larger sizes.

Are storage beds durable and stable?

Very much so. Quality storage beds like ours use reinforced frames to handle the extra weight of stored items plus your mattress and sleepers. Gas lift mechanisms are rated for thousands of lifts. Drawer runners are built for daily use. When properly assembled, they're just as stable as traditional beds.

Are gas lift storage beds safe for a children's room?

Yes, with supervision. Modern gas lift mechanisms include safety features like soft-close functions. However, young children shouldn't operate them unsupervised. For kids' rooms, we often recommend drawer storage beds instead as they're simpler and safer for little ones to use independently.

What sizes and styles of storage bed frames are available?

We stock storage solutions in every standard Australian bed size. Styles range from contemporary upholstered beds to classic timber drawer bases. Colours include soft grey, pewter, dark grey, latte, and natural timber finishes. Our team can show you the full range.

Do storage beds work with any mattress type?

They work with most mattresses, but check your specific model. Gas lift beds need mattresses within certain weight ranges for the mechanism to function smoothly. Your mattress also needs proper support, so ensure your storage bed has adequate slats or a solid platform. Add a mattress protector to qualify for our 30-night guarantee and keep everything fresh.

Are beds with storage a good idea?

They're brilliant for apartments, smaller homes, or anyone who needs extra storage without cluttering their bedroom with furniture. You're using space that'd otherwise go to waste. The small additional cost compared to a traditional bed frame pays off quickly in functionality.
