Why Choose a Gas Lift Bed for Your Bedroom?
A gas lift bed turns the dead space under your mattress into proper storage without using any extra floor space. The base lifts on gas struts and holds itself open, giving you one deep compartment for spare quilts and the boxes that never fit anywhere else. Because nothing slides outward, it can sit hard against a wall or in the middle of a smaller room.
Gas Lift vs Drawers: What's the Difference?
Both store things under the bed, they just suit different habits. Gas lift is best for what you put away for the season, though you clear the top of the bed to open it. Drawers open in seconds without disturbing the mattress, better for folded clothes and spare linen, though they need clear floor beside the bed. If that's more like your room, our beds with drawers are in this same collection.
OMF's Gas Lift Bed Range
King single is one of the biggest parts of this range, and it does well in teenagers' rooms and guest rooms with no space for a wardrobe: look at the Essentials Gas Lift King Single or the Mireille Gas Lift Storage Bed Frame. For double and queen, the Maddon Gas Lift and Astana Boucle cover most tastes, while the Edge Gas Lift in latte and Mosman Gas Lift Upholstered step things up. In king, there's the Gabrielle Boucle and Colson Gas Lift Storage Bed. Finishes run across boucle, velvet, PU leather and timber.
Common Questions About Gas Lift Beds
Are gas lift beds easy to put together?
The gas lift mechanism arrives already assembled on most of our frames, so you're mainly joining the frame pieces and fitting the slats. Two people makes it a lot easier, particularly in queen and king.
Are gas lift storage beds safe?
The struts hold the base open on their own, and on the way down they slow it rather than letting it drop. Most designs need a deliberate pull to release, and opening it is a job for an adult.
What's the difference between a gas lift bed and a hydraulic one?
The names get used interchangeably. Strictly, gas lift uses gas struts and hydraulic uses fluid-filled pistons. Nearly everything sold in Australia as a hydraulic storage bed is a gas strut bed.
How long does the gas lift mechanism last?
The struts are the part that wears, and it comes down to build quality and how often the bed gets opened. Most of ours have a steel frame under the upholstery with timber slats.
Will a gas lift bed work with my mattress?
Most are fine. A very deep mattress can change how easily the base lifts, so check first and sort your queen mattress at the same time.
Come and lift one at any of our 50+ stores across Australia. A photo tells you little about a lift mechanism, so open a few and let our cOMFy experts match it to the right mattress. If gas lift isn't what you're after, our full range of bed frames covers everything else.
